Enhanced Resource System

Welcome back students! It’s been awhile hasn’t it? A lot of changes are coming to Visions of Zosimos from as small as UI adjustments to as large as environment and animation fixes. These changes are going to create a much more visually stimulating experience. For the most part the design team has been focusing on collecting player feedback and looking at design flaws. The results have led to an enhanced resource system that is initially rather similar to what you have currently, but does bring back an old mechanic our more seasoned students may recognize.

For starters, our previous resource mechanic had you starting with a total of four dice in each pool at the start of the game, but that number has been dropped to two, creating a larger gap between early and midgame strategies. We also made it so you will continue to gain dice even after turn 5 until the end of the game, which happens on turn 10, ramping up the end game feel as well. So far these changes may not appear to be much, but re-introducing Elemental Dice is one of the biggest additions to our resource system. Elemental Dice are not mandatory for a deck to work, but they allow you to change strategies much more easily, especially if you are playing a three pool deck. These special dice allow you to play cards of any type of pool and use homunculi abilities. After using these dice, however, they are gone. These dice are gained by scrapping terrain cards. This means that when you play a terrain card on the board, you have the option to destroy it to gain an Elemental Dice. Because of this new mechanic, we decided to create a new terrain card with no cost whatsoever. The catch is that you can only play one terrain card per turn, so theoretically you can gain 10 Elemental Dice by the end of the game.
